A Capital School of English Homestay

Capital School of English takes students aged 16 + and young learners (aged 12-16). Many of our students choose to live with a homestay while studying with us, so they can become part of a British family; eating together, chatting together and sharing experiences together. We recommend living with a homestay to students as it is the best way for them to learn about British culture and practice their English outside of the classroom. We often find that our homestays welcome students but they leave as family, forming lifelong friendships.

Do I live in the catchment area?

We only accept homestays within a 30-minute walk or short bus ride from the 324 Wimborne Road (our main school).

 

Most homestays are about 15-minutes from the main school.

Does it matter that I have pets?

No. You must inform us of any pets you have or any pets you get while hosting.

 

Students are asked before they arrive if they have any allergies to animals. Students will not be placed in your home if they are allergic to your animals.

Who will I be hosting?

You will host students studying English at Capital School of English. We take students aged 16 + and young learners (aged 12-16).

 

Please note: Hosting students Under 18 requires additional safeguard and duty of care responsibilities.

 

Our students are from around the world. Most of our students are from Europe and the Middle East, we also have some students from Asia and South America.

 

Students can stay from 1 week to 1 year. Most students from Europe stay for 2-4 weeks, and students from the Middle East from 3 months to 11 months.

 

You can host male or female students. You can specify your preferences regarding hosting students of a certain age, nationality, for a certain duration etc. We take all preferences and the student requirements into account when placing a student, to allow us to find the most suitable homestay for the student.

Capital School of English takes students with very limited English to advanced students who are similar to native speakers.

 

The conversations and interactions you have with them along with their lessons and our social programme will all play a part in their language learning.

What is expected of a homestay?

Capital School of English expects you to interact with and accept the student as part of your family. Mealtimes, especially dinner time, are a great opportunity to sit with your student and chat with them about your day and their day, and anything else.

 

You should provide a comfortable living environment, with a good level of cleanliness, heating and lighting. Students are expected to keep their bedroom tidy and make their bed every day. However, they are not expected to clean their bedroom or the house. Bed linen and towels must be changed once a week. You must do their laundry a minimum of once a week.

 

You are expected to host students from Sunday-Sunday.

Bedroom:

  • Single room: You should provide a private bedroom with a single bed, desk for studying (or a table in the house for studying), wardrobe or drawers to unpack their clothes. The room must be private and not shared with another person or student.
  • Twin room: You should provide a private bedroom with two single beds, desk for studying (or a table in the house for studying), wardrobe or drawers to unpack their clothes. The room must be private and not shared with another person.
  • Ensuite rooms: You should provide a private bathroom either attached or separate to the bedroom.

 

Facilities:

  • Wifi
  • Towels (changed once a week)
  • Bedding and bed Linen (changed once a week). Extra blankets or duvets in the colder months
  • Iron and ironing board

Homestay accommodation is full-board at the weekend (Saturday & Sunday) and half-board during the week (Monday to Friday).

 

Full-board: Breakfast, Packed Lunch and Dinner.

 

Half-Board: Breakfast and Dinner.

 

Homestay hosts are expected to provide a balanced diet. Typical meals, could be:

  • Breakfast: cereal or toast with a cup of tea or coffee
  • Packed Lunch: sandwich, fruit and drink
  • Dinner: Meat, potatoes and vegetables or meat, rice and vegetables.

 

Some students may have special dietary requirements. Some homestays cater for vegetarian, gluten free, dairy free (if you are lactose intolerant), nut free, celiac, pescatarian and diabetes appropriate diets. We do not expect homestays to provide halal diets. You can specify your preferences regarding hosting students with special dietary requirements.

It is important that you share any issues or concerns with us. We can only help if we know about it. If you don’t tell us, we can’t help.

Capital School of English cannot be held responsible for any accidental damage or loss of property caused by a student.

 

Homestays are responsible for having suitable home insurance and informing their insurance provider that they intend to host students.

Do I need to provide any documents?

Yes. All homestays must provide:

 

A copy of your ID to verify your identity.

  • A copy of your annual gas certificate.
  • A fire risk assessment of your home (we will provide the form and can help with this).
  • 2 character references.

 

Homestays hosting students under 18 must also provide or have an Enhanced DBS check. This is renewed every three years.

Once we have visited you and your home and all the necessary paperwork has been completed you will be issued with unique Homestay Provider Reference Number.

You must inform Capital School of English as soon as possible. For example, if you child moves out, please let us know.

Homestays are paid fortnightly. We will tell you the payment schedule once you have been accepted as a Homestay.

Before agreeing to become a Homestay provider, potential hosts are strongly recommended to check with the Department of Work and Pensions and/or HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) to see how hosting a student may affect their entitlement to any benefits and/or tax credits they may receive.
