It is an award-winning holiday destination for UK and overseas visitors. Most of our staff aren’t originally from the area however, they came and didn’t want to leave.

Bournemouth is famous for its 11 km of stunning beach, ideal for sunbathing, going for a walk or run along the promenade or getting out on the water to try some watersports.

Arts & Culture

Bournemouth is also a vibrant university town, a hub for creative, financial and tourism industries.

Bournemouth has something for everyone from sports to culture, from fine dining to street food, from a busy town centre to quiet beach huts. ​

Bournemouth isn’t a big city like London or Manchester, it is a town. You will soon learn your way around and feel safe. It is easy to get around by bus or even walk, nothing is too far away.

Also, Bournemouth has an international airport and is less than 2 hours from London (by direct train). ​

Out & About

Bournemouth has a large number of great restaurants and eating establishments. The town itself has plenty of social activities for those weekends off.

WHY VISIT:

The New Forest National Park is perfect for nature lovers. It is famous for its forests and ponies. It’s a wonderful place for walking, cycling, or riding horses.

The Jurassic Coast

WHY VISIT:

The Jurassic Coast is about 95 miles long from Old Harry Rocks at Studland Bay in Dorset to Exmouth in East Devon. It was England’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site. When you are staying in Bournemouth is a fantastic place that you have to see.

Stonehenge

WHY VISIT:

Stonehenge is a World Heritage Site and one of the most famous prehistoric monuments in Europe. It is over 4,500 years old and has an unforgettable atmosphere and many special meanings to people who visit.

Approx 40 miles | 75 mins by car | 75 mins train to Salisbury and 30 mins by bus from Salisbury | by coach approx £25. Plus entrance fee.

Winchester

WHY VISIT:

Winchester is a cathedral city, England’s ancient capital, and home to King Alfred the Great. Today, Winchester is popular for its busy shopping streets, its flowers in summer, and its markets and events. Winchester is also very famous for its eleventh century Cathedral and for the Great Hall where the mysterious King Athur’s Round Table has been for over 700 years.

HOW FAR IS IT:

Approx 40 miles | 45 mins by car | 55 mins by train | by coach approx £35. Plus entrance fees to Winchester Cathedral & The Great Hall.

Brownsea Island

WHY VISIT:

A great day’s adventure. Brownsea Island is near Poole Harbour, with dramatic views of the Purbeck Hills. You’ll see lots of great nature here, a variety of birds (including hens, peacocks), red squirrels, and a 19th-century church.

HOW TO GET THERE:

There are regular boat services from Poole Quay and Sandbanks every day from around Mid-March to the end of October | By coach £20 approx. Plus entrance fee.

Poole Harbour & Sandbanks

WHY VISIT:

Poole Harbour is Europe’s largest natural harbour and leads to many rivers that go through Dorset to the coast. If you walk around the quay, you will find some lovely, unique shops, cafes and restaurants. 

Sandbanks is a small peninsula in Poole Harbour and is one of Britain’s best beaches. Sandbanks has won the Blue Flag award for over 30 years with its soft golden sands and incredible views.

HOW FAR IS IT:

Approx 5 miles | 15 mins by car | 45 mins by bus | By local transport approx £5 (return).

Christchurch Food Festival

A fantastic food & drink event with great street food and craft drinks, with some of the best produce and ingredients from the South and South West. 

Bournemouth Air Festival

More than 1 million people come to see the Bournemouth Air Festival. It is the UK’s biggest and best aviation event, and you can be there with Capital! This is your chance to see the incredible display of the world-famous Red Arrows! 

Bournemouth Fireworks

In summer, Bournemouth has an incredible fireworks display every week! The best place to watch the show is down on the beach by Bournemouth Pier with friends. 

Bournemouth Marathon Festival

The Bournemouth Marathon Festival has lots of fun and challenging races that you can watch or take part in. It’s a great way to stay healthy and enjoy the beautiful coast of Bournemouth and Poole. 

Bournemouth Arts by the Sea Festival

Arts by the Sea is an annual festival that takes place in many locations around Bournemouth. It celebrates art, culture, people, place and community. There is always a fun atmosphere with lots of music, art and dance! 

Bournemouth Christmas Tree Wonderland

Every year Bournemouth Gardens become a magical Christmas market. There is live music, over 100 trees with beautiful lights, lots of handmade gifts, live music, and tasty food and drink. 

I really like staying with my homestay family because I can practice my English with spontaneous conversations. It really helps me to improve my English.
