Our most popular type of accommodation.

Living with a homestay allows you to become a part of a British family; eating together, chatting together and sharing experiences together. It is also the best way to learn about British culture and practice your English outside of the classroom.

Homestay Overview

Your Room

All bedrooms are private rooms and not shared with another person or student, unless requested by the student. Twin rooms can only be shared with a friend or relative.

Ensuite rooms have a private bathroom either attached or separate to the bedroom. Ensuite rooms are limited and are subject to availability. Students should request/book an ensuite room as early as possible.

Availability

Students should request/book residential accommodation as early as possible. It is subject to availability, and can be busy.

Homestay accommodation is booked on a weekly basis (Sunday – Sunday).
Arrival is from 12:00 (midday).
Departure is before 10:00.

Meals

Homestay accommodation is full-board at the weekend (Saturday & Sunday) and half-board during the week (Monday to Friday).

Please note: 
Full-board = Breakfast, Packed Lunch and Dinner.
Half-Board = Breakfast and Dinner.

Laundry

Your homestay will wash your clothes (do your laundry) a minimum of once a week.

Your homestay will change your towels and bed linen (sheets, pillowcase and duvet cover) every week.

Location

  • All homestays are within 3 miles from the main school.
  • Most homestays are about a 15 to 20-minute walk from the main school.
  • We recommend getting a bus pass.

Prices quoted are per week for 2024.

All Prices are in Pound Sterling (£GBP) and include a room of your choice as above, meals (half-board during the week and full-board at the weekends only), WIFI and weekly laundry.

Additional Information

Capital School of English only provides accommodation while you are studying on a course at Capital School of English. You should request/book homestay accommodation as early as possible. It is subject to availability and can be busy in the summer.

You must inform Capital School of English on your enrolment form or when requesting/booking homestay accommodation information about your preferred type of homestay, any special dietary requirements and allergies, to allow Capital School of English to organise the most suitable homestay for you.

Extra night: If students need to stay for any additional nights, if there is availability Capital School of English may be able to organise this. Students will need to pay for these additional nights. Homestays may not be able to provide extra nights in the summers season unless a full weeks payment is paid.

Holiday Retainer Fee: If students take a ‘holiday’ during their course and want to keep their room with the homestay or keep their belongings in the homestay they may still need to pay the Holiday Retainer Fee per week.

Capital School of English can change accommodation arrangements and fees/rates at any time and without notice.

Long term student payment plan: Payment must be received in full a minimum of 4 weeks before the start of the student’s course. If students are enrolled for 24 weeks or more, they may pay for their accommodation every 4 weeks. A late fee of £25.00 will be charged if the balance is not paid by or on the agreed date.

Who will I live with?

Who will I live with?

You will live in a British family. A British family can be:

  • A mother and father with children
  • A single person with no children
  • A single person with children
  • A couple (male and female, male and male, female and female)
  • Young people
  • Older people

Many homestays have pets. In the UK, they are part of the family.

You may also live with other students from Capital School of English or another school. Some homestays have one bedroom available while others have more. Please note:

  • 4 is maximum number of students/paying guests in the house at the same time as you.
  • You will not be in the same house as another student of the same nationality as you, unless requested by you.
  • Please remember: All bedrooms are private rooms and not shared with another person or student, unless requested by you.

Capital School of English organises the most suitable homestay for you.

Capital School of English regularly visits and inspects all homestay homes and hosts. We check to make sure that you have a comfortable living environment, with a good level of cleanliness, heating and lighting.

All homestays with gas have a valid Gas Safety Certificate, which is checked every year, and a Carbon Monoxide detector.

All homestays have smoke alarms and a fire risk assessment.

Suitability checks for working with children (Under 18s) are done on all homestays hosting a student Under18. This includes DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checks with the police, and safeguard training.

What if I need a special diet?

Capital School of English homestay’s can provide special diet requests such as Vegetarian, Vegan, Pescatarian, Celiac, Gluten Free, Nuts, Lactose Intolerance and Diabetes. (excludes Halal meat, the host families will provide a pork free diet instead)

An additional charge of £50 per week applies for these special dietary requirements.

Capital School of English can only guarantee a home without pets, if you provide a medical certificate.

Do I need to clean my room/the bathroom?

You do not have to clean your bedroom. But you must keep your bedroom tidy and make your bed every day.

You do not have to clean the bathroom. But you must leave the bathroom clean and tidy. You must use your own shampoo, soap, toothpaste, etc.

If you want to change homestay, Capital School of English can organise a homestay.

I really like staying with my homestay family because I can practice my English with spontaneous conversations. It really helps me to improve my English.
